Great article, thanks, David. You want to know what happened in 2019, the reduction in clearcutting was self-inflicted. Teal Jones shut down its own operations in protest of weak markets/high stumpage rates. See https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news/teal-jones-to-shut-down-coastal-logging-citing-weak-markets-high-costs
The thing to remember is that we never stopped Teal from clearcutting second growth forest and there is no requirement that a certain portion of the Annual Allowable Cut be old-growth.
I am one of the 15 defendants and I intend to challenge Teal's claims of irreparable harm. They have now clear cut the 200 hectares or so of OG that we were protecting. Imagine the rewards to Teal if they had voluntarily agreed to protect the little OG that is left in the TFL. The PR alone would have been incredible along with all those forest services that would have been available to all Teal employees and their next generations.
Teal Cedar Ltd. is going after leaders of the Fairy Creek blockades for millions in damages. Does Teal have a case?

Thanks for the opportunity to clarify. TFL #46 comprises 60,000 hectares of unceded Pacheedaht lands. The Fairy Creek Watershed is approximately 1200 hectares, and you're right, this has been deferred until February 2025. The 200 hectares are cutblocks outside of the watershed. Teal Cedar's stated goal in their Forest Stewardship Plan is to cut all available old-growth until it is exhausted.
