The Evergreen Alliance is developing an evidenced-based case for much greater conservation of BC forests. The case starts with an explanation of the extent of over-exploitation of BC forests and provides details about numerous negative physical, economic and social impacts. Our argument provides the historical context for the regulatory failure that has allowed over-exploitation to occur and describes how this over-exploitation infringes on Indigenous title and rights to the land. We include First Nations’ response to those impacts.
The Evergreen Alliance is dedicated to stopping and reversing these negative impacts. The Alliance will assist those advocating for change by providing science-based information and journalism about these issues and by creating a space for open public discussion. Further, it will create opportunities for BC individuals, organizations and communities to share information and ideas, get more organized and take actions that will lead to greater conservation and restoration of BC forests.

The fundamental purpose of this website is to accurately portray the over-exploited state of of BC's forests.
What are the physical impacts of that over-exploitation?
Loss of primary forest
Destruction of wildlife habitat and loss of biodiversity
Loss of the hydrological functions of forests
Increase in forest fire hazard
Loss of carbon sequestration capacity
Increase in forest carbon emissions
Plantation failure
Use of ecologically damaging forestry practices
Permanent loss of forests to logging roads
Soil loss and damage
What are the economic impacts of over-exploitation?
Loss of forest-related employment
Loss of future employment resulting from the export of raw logs

Broad themes
This website is also organized around four broad themes: the problems created by over-exploitation, the solutions to that overexploitation, the actions individual citizens can take, and the myths created by government and industry to support the current high level of exploitation.
Science
We are creating a library of scientific studies and expert reports relevant to BC forests. You will find these on the main menu at the top of each page under "Science". Or follow the links below:

Tools
We have created or collected a number of practical tools for those folks deeply interested in engaging with the mindustry at a level at which government will pay attention. This includes government interactive geospatial maps, a growing collection of graphic representations of forest trends, our Clearcut Carbon Calculator for estimating how much carbon would be released by logging at various scales, a link to the Ministry of Forests Harvest Billing System, an archive of the ministry's surveys of wood product manufacturing facilities, links to all of the 18 forest-related acts and regulations in BC, an archive of the ministry's "Economic State of the BC Forest Sector" reports, the most recent BC Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, a portal to the BC Wildfire Dashboard, a portal to the most recent satellite imagery of BC, a portal to Google Earth's forest removal Time Lapse Generator, and a tool for measuring distance between 2 points, the area of a feature like a clearcut, or determining latitude and longitude.
